This poster image was borrowed from a design by Aleksandr Rodchenko, one of the primary Soviet constructivist artists right after the revolution of 1917. He developed the style of arrows and exclamation points that are characteristic of Soviet propaganda, and I really liked the idea of making something seem more important than it really is through the use of those devices. Rodchenko’s style is really influential, not just on my work but on much of the propaganda-style artwork created over the past 80 years.
