Starting in the mid-1990s, Hirst began working in an abstract mode of pouring household gloss paint onto a rotating canvas attached to a spin machine. For his second venture in printmaking, Hirst recreates the ‘spin’ paintings through the etching technique. ‘Spinning Wheel’ is created by attaching copper plates to a spin machine and incising them with sharp tools such as needles and screwdrivers. The concentric-circle format is a result of the mark left by the tool on the spinning plate
